Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a product of General Mills that was first offered in 1984. All of the history credits General Mills (the company) as the inventor of Cinnamon Toast Crunch but clearly there is a person or team that invented the crunchy goodness but there is no record of them.

After a complete search of all applicable search points the mystery still remains and the individual that invented this morning breakfast food may never be granted credit for the invention of the tasty squares. It is safe to say that Cinnamon Toast Crunch was created or invented by a group that worked for General Mills.

General Mills History

General Mills is a successful company that has its roots dated back to the late 1800’s. Created by an owner of two flour mills, the first cereal branded Wheaties was produced in 1931 and spread like wildfire.

Throughout its history, General Mills has created many favorite and familiar pantry items like Betty Crocker baking goods, Gold Medal Flour (still # 1 in the US since the 1800’s) Big G Cereals, Green Giant, Fruit Snacks and many other brands all got their start in two flour mills in the midwest.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch was General Mills slam dunk of 1984. The squares of two grain cereal covered in a light powdering of cinnamon and sugar was an instant favorite among children and adults. The cereal initially debuted as the kid’s cereal that adults loved too. The slogans have been changed over the years however the mascot has always remained the same. The chubby chef Wendell and his two unnamed buddies have been gracing the boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the US since the cereals inception.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch quickly made its way to other markets around the globe although under different names. In the UK it was initially called “Cinnamon Grahams” but was changed to “Curiously Cinnamon”. They are known as Croque Cannelle in French Canadian cities and a similar looking cereal put out by General Mills European arm is called Cini Minis.

The original inventor(s) may not be getting credit for their creation but it is a very popular cereal worldwide and a morning stable for thousands of people around the world. There are even recipes that have cropped up that use Cinnamon Toast Crunch as the base for the recipe.
